The overall Research
Program of the Centre is targetting industry-estimated
gains in excess of $M300. This figure emphasises that
the CRC-WS is involved in sub- program areas of high potential
impact across its Research Portfolio.
Industry-estimated and future benefits
from the portfolio include $M130 attributable to our Pipeline
Sub-Program, $M5 for the Joining Equipment Sub- Program,
$M10 for the Power Generation Sub-Program and $M180 for
the Building and Construction Sub-Program.
These figures reflect the potential,
in the next few years, for the construction of pipelines
worth $B4 (eg PNG to Queensland), the expansion of North
West Shelf facilities and new opportunities for the Australian
fabrication industry in these and other projects.
Given these examples of prospective energy
projects, it is pertinent to note that APIA have recently
advised the CRC-WS that the implementation of CRC-WS research
outcomes saved over $M10 in costs associated with the
1999/2000 construction of the Longford-Sydney pipeline,
which is due for opening in August 2000.
The following sections serve to outline
the background, emphasis and progress for all CRC-WS research
projects conducted in 1999/2000. These are presented by
sub-program in the following sections. Overall milestone
achievement performance for the year to 30th June was
at an improved level of 69% (compared with 46% as at 30th
June 1999 and 58% in February 2000) reflecting a significant
emphasis on project planning and management through the
year.
